EXW, FOB and CIF for furniture
The three terms furniture buyers ask for first. This is a public note — not a contract and not a freight quote.

Incoterms decide who books the main carriage, who pays which leg, and where risk passes. On furniture, they also decide who holds the export papers and who runs the loading checks.

EXW — Ex Works
The buyer collects at the named place. You (or your forwarder) book the inland haul, the export formalities, and the main carriage.
On furniture this means the loading photos and the seal still matter — the truck leaves a plant, not a showroom. The desk can still match, quote and follow production. The main carriage is yours.
FOB — Free On Board
The seller delivers on board the vessel at the named port of shipment. Export formalities sit with the seller side of the term. The buyer books the ocean (or main) carriage from that port.
For a first furniture container, FOB is common when the buyer already has a forwarder in the destination market and wants to hold the ocean booking.
CIF — Cost, Insurance and Freight
The seller pays cost, insurance and freight to the named port of destination. Risk still passes in a defined way at shipment — CIF is not “door to shop”.
Buyers who want one counterpart to coordinate goods, export papers and the main ocean leg often ask for CIF. The inland delivery after the destination port is a separate conversation.

Quality grade, production photos and loading checks are desk work on every term. The term does not open the catalogue. Request access for a programme quote.
